Andy Warhol once said, “I always thought I’d like my own tombstone to be blank. No epitaph, and no name. Well, actually, I’d like it to say ‘figment’.” He didn’t get that particular wish, but today, on what would have been his eighty-fifth birthday, the Andy Warhol Museum has launched a live feed of the pop art visionary’s grave, appropriately titled Figment. A truly Warholian tribute to the man who so accurately prophesied “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes,” the feed is available 24-7, worldwide. Andy Warhol was born Andrej Varhola, Jr. on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Slovak immigrant parents, who are buried in the same Catholic cemetery, likely in the grave behind his marked “Warhola.” You can see a live stream of his grave, decorated with flowers, balloons, and a fitting tribute of Campbell’s soup cans, here.
