We are pleased to announce the third contemporary art exhibition in our MAAC on the Map series. This month we present a group show of 12 exceptional artists entitled Mortal Coil. The tremendous success of the previous two exhibitions has shown the immense popularity and thirst for contemporary art on the Upper East Side.
This month we break with the tradition of a weekend opening in favor of a weekday opening on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. This also gives the visitors an opportunity to explore the 50 incredible galleries that make up the Manhattan Art & Antiques Center.
This group show features the mastery of 12 exceptional artists including: Lawrence Aarons, Adina Andrus, Becky Bailey, Andre Beverley, Camilla Marie Dahl, Iulia-Lavinia Falcan, Victoria General, Amy Hughes, Dinora Justice, Lena Miskulin, Jeffrey Morabito and Alan Richards. This exhibition will be open daily to the public until September 30, 2017.
The curatorial vision for MAAC on the Map: Mortal Coil embodies the place where we mirror, interact with and deconstruct the human form in all of its tumultuous bustle. It is the liminal space where our spiraling DNA becomes story. It is where we face our natures and interrogate how we communicate. It is our visceral response to the psychological, emotional and physical triggers that spark self reflection.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the work, curated by Paul Anavian and Michaela Boruta, in the six dedicated gallery spaces at The Manhattan Art & Antiques Center. The artists will be on hand to discuss their works in detail with the public at a stylish reception which is free to the public.
This exhibition will also feature the popular “MAAC Mini’s” where each artist participates in a discussion about their artistic process in creating their work at a “meet & greet” brunch on Sunday, September 17 between 1pm – 3pm. The accompanying lecture series that aligns with the vision of MAAC on the MAP: Mortal Coil, will include two evening talks by renowned speakers on Thursdays, September 14 and 21 at 6:30pm respectively.
MAAC on the Map is a movement to give contemporary artists a new home on the Upper East Side and an opportunity to expose their work to a different audience. The injection of these vital contemporary artists shows that the Upper East Side is a potent destination for innovation, a creative hotspot where experience meets a new breed of artistic disruptor.
We look forward to hosting you.
