The Independent Art Spaces Symposium on Saturday, March 31, 2012 celebrates and introduces the launch of the Art Spaces Directory, which is published in conjunction with the 2012 New Museum Triennial: “The Ungovernables.” The Art Spaces Directory is an international guide to the sites where contemporary art and artists are welcomed and nurtured. With a detailed profile of over 400 art spaces from ninety-six countries, this volume is a useful tool for artists, curators and art enthusiasts everywhere. The directory also includes a series of essays and discussions by art world figures including Víctor Albarracín, Reem Fadda and Christine Tohme. The symposium is divided into two panel discussions. The first explores what can happen in these art spaces that can’t happen elsewhere and the second looks at working without a physical space in the digital age (newmuseum.org). The symposium begins at noon. Visit the event page for more details.
