The Emporer's Secret Garden

Completed in 1776, the emperor Qianlong had a lavish palace built for his retirement, complete with 27 beautifully decorated buildings and a lush two-acre garden. Here, he meant to devote his life to Buddhist studies and writings. The furnishings, murals and detailed works of the garden are now on traveling display for the world to enjoy.
