Rare Chinese Export Polychrome Plate. A fine and rare Chinese Export polychrome plate with a reclining woman and swain in a garden setting with urn., lady in a window, and town in background. The scene is known as “La Servante Justifiee (The Servant Justified), copying an engraving by Nicolas de Larmessin II (c. 1638-1694) after a painting by Nicolas Lancret (1690-1743), taken from a fable of La Fontaine, which is directly inspired by a story written by the Queen of Navarre c. 1755.
