My name is Leah Gordon, and my business is Leah Gordon Antiques. I came here in 1999 and my gallery is number 19.
What Kind of Jewelry Do You Specialize In?
I deal in artist jewelry, and by this I mean fine artist…artists such as Dali, Picasso, Lichtenstein, Brach. I am the only dealer here who has jewelry of that type, and I do believe I’m the only dealer here who has Picasso Ceramics or even Dali objects.

Can You Show Us a Piece By Lichtenstein?
This is a wonderful and very popular example…This is called “Pop Art Woman.” He did it in 1968, and at that time, there was a gallery on Madison Avenue called “Multiples” and their speciality was in multiple items, and they commissioned artists, particularly in New York here, to design jewelry, and in this case, Lichtenstein made one in multicolors and one in silver and black enamel.

Can You Tell Us About Dali Jewelry?
Now Salvador Dali was prolific. In addition to all his paintings, his sculpture, his graphics, he also did jewelry. And he started around 1949…this is a piece he designed, which is Tristan & Isolde, after the opera. This is a case of the two lovers, not quite kissing…they never got to kiss…and this is their chalice of love potion.

Why Is Jewelry Important To You?
There is a lot of jewelry, not only in the Center but in the city and in this country, and in the world. Women have always loved jewelry…and I always say, once man came out of the cave, and he got himself some shelter, and he got himself some food, what did he do? He put a jewel in his navel, he hung something from his ear, from his nose. So man has always been interested in this.
About the Gallery
As a dealer for 25 years and at the MAAC for 19 years, Leah Gordon features objects of 20th century design including: sterling silver pottery, 19th and 20th century fine jewelry, artist jewelry such as Braque, Lichtenstein, Picasso and Art Smith. Additionally, the gallery features Taxco jewelry of the William Spratling school, Georg Jensen and the Wiener Werkstätte.
